Cape Cod Gateway Airport to Host PFAS Mitigation Status Update Meeting on January 14

Local Residents and Stakeholders Invited to Participate in Interactive Presentation

HYANNIS, Mass. – Cape Cod Gateway Airport will host a meeting to provide the community with a comprehensive PFAS mitigation status update on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Barnstable Town Hall. A Zoom link, accessible here, will be available for community members to participate and ask questions remotely.

Bryan Massa, a licensed site professional with HRP Associates, Inc. will provide a science- and data-based presentation to update the public on significant progress achieved to mitigate PFAS contamination at the airport and planned future PFAS monitoring and remediation activities. The airport is currently in the Phase V – or final – stage of cleanup, having successfully completed stringent requirements mandated through the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s Massachusetts Contingency Plan and Public Involvement Plan.

“We look forward to providing the community with an update of the significant progress made toward remediating PFAS contamination at the airport, while also identifying and analyzing other major non-airport contamination sources affecting the community,” said Cape Cod Gateway Airport Manager Michael Nelson. “The airport is committed to transparency and public involvement throughout the PFAS mitigation process, which is now in its final stage.”

About PFAS The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has identified per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) as a group of synthetic chemicals that have been in use since the 1940s. They are found in a wide array of consumer and industrial products, including stain-and-water-resistant products approved for fabrics and carpets, oil-resistant coating for paper products approved for food contact, mining and well surfactants, floor polishes, insecticide formulations and in Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF), a firefighting foam commonly used to extinguish flammable liquid fires such as those caused by oil, gasoline, or jet fuel.
